The "Viewz" Project
These pen, ink and watercolour drawings of natural forms and manufactured objects record my real and imagined journeys. I sketch the images onto sheets of Indian hand-made paper. Then I fold each sheet of paper up into the size of a postcard and post them back to my studio.
When I return from my travels, these little parcels are waiting for me in the letterbox! With pen, ink and watercolour, I then finish the images, notations and memories of the places which I have visited.
As I draw the "Viewz", I imagine what it would be like to look at the world like a visitor from another planet. I imagine early explorers, arriving by foot or sailing ships into new lands and cultures: the scientists and botanical and zoological artists recording in their sketchbooks strange natural phenomena and manufactured objects never seen before.
Many of these historical sketchbooks and journals have largely inspired me to create the "Viewz" project.
