“The "Viewz" series are about travel and memories. During journeys, I post back to my studio pieces of Indian hand-made paper. On my return, I carefully unwrap these much-travelled objects and with pen & watercolour draw upon them the images which comprise some of my memories of the places visited. These notations of natural forms and manufactured objects provide a record of things I have encountered, in much the same way as the observations of the early explorers of natural-history were recorded in pen & ink. It is as much my own fascination with subjects taken out of their contemporary context as it is the methodologies of botanical and zoological illustrators which has inspired these works.“ |
