The "Viewz" Project
These pen, ink and watercolour drawings of natural forms and manufactured objects provide a record of things I have encountered on my travels and sparked my imagination. During my travels, I carry some sheets of Indian hand-made paper in my luggage. You can see the dimensions of each sheet under the Print Titles below. When I am inspired to draw forms and objects that I discover on location, I make a sketch or two. Then I fold each sheet of paper up into the size of a postcard and tape around the edges before sticking on some stamps and writing my address. I mail this packet back to my studio from the nearest post office. When I eventually return to my studio, these much-travelled little objects are waiting for me in my letterbox! I carefully remove the tape, un-fold and flatten out the sheet of paper and with pen, ink and watercolour, draw upon them and finish the images of these notations and memories of the place which I have visited.
When I am drawing the "Viewz", I imagine what it would be like to look at these objects for the first time, like a visitor from another world. I imagine explorers, arriving by foot or sailing ships into new lands and cultures: the scientists and botanical and zoological artists observing and recording strange new exotic natural forms and artifacts. Many of their historical notebooks and journals have largely inspired me to create the "Viewz" project.
These original artworks are now available as high-quality limited edition prints. The original artworks are scanned and printed in Germany using the most recent ultra-high resolution technology. Each print is on thick, creamy-white Hahnemühle German Etching paper using the highest quality Archival Pigment Ultra-Chrome Epson Inks. Each print features its own unique catalogue number and is signed by the artist. Included in the purchase price are the cost of postage and Post-Secure packaging.
